two three four five six seven This is a part of a well known Dutch children song. From that song comes the title of this new, original play by Saskia Janse. A story about the old man Johnny who is living in a retirement home in Michigan. When Marie steps back into his life, his world is turned upside down. Beautiful and tender memories come back as well as nightmares from the past. We go back to the time when Johnny was still called Berend and he lived in the Netherlands with his family. We go back to the Twenties when Berend dreamed about America with Jan, his favorite older brother. They make plans together how to come to America, how to escape the obvious future Berend otherwise will have in the textile factory, like his father and all his brothers. When he sees Marie again after all these years, it isn't a pleasant reunion. What has happened between Berend and Marie? Why did she betray him? Marie's secrets and betrayal will be slowly unraveled in this intriguing story. With Reed quintet Calefax (www.calefax.nl) , projections, actors and puppets.
