Nils is a very nasty boy who is mean to everyone and everything that comes near him. One day, his behavior causes him to be transformed into a boy no taller than 30 centimeters'. All the animals that Nils once bullied seize their chance and pick on him for once. Nils panics and fleas. He grabs hold of Maarten, a tame goose, that tries to fly to the north with a bunch of wild geese. Together they fly over land and seas and discover their country from a whole different perspective. They have to learn how to search for food and shelter. Whilst flying with the geese Nils learns something about the world and himself.
